Medford — If she hadn’t stumbled upon an old watercolor set at a garage sale, June Holwell might never have followed through with her painting.
“I constantly wanted to paint,” says Holwell, sitting in her West Medford home on a cold, windy afternoon. “If I hadn’t found [the paint set], maybe I wouldn’t have tried to be creative, maybe it would have all stayed in the back of my head.”
Luckily for Medford, and both its arts organizations — the Medford Arts Council and the Medford Arts Center, Inc. — Holwell decided to tackle painting. It’s not only made her the artist she wanted to be, but propelled her onto the local arts scene, both in front of the public and behind the scenes.
